IT'S HERE AGAIN

Well back in January of this Year, I had posted about my SINUSITIS, and well since it now be fall, it has returned. Since the middle of August till now, I have been suffering in various stages, I have had some pretty serious coughing going on, runny nose and tiredness etc.

Boy do I just love this time of the year. I look like I am constantly sick, but all it is is severe allergies to the pollens (I am assuming, since it when the leaves drop or start to bloom) in Maryland.

Well since it has been 10 weeks of about 90% hearing loss in my left ear, yep always the left ear first, my wife has finally encouraged me to go and see a ENT doctor, so yeah I have to pay the $20 copay to get the referral and then the $30 pay to see the ENT doctor.

A normal ear looks like this

my ear looks like this

They did about 40 minutes of hearing test, and told me that my right here has some but not too much negative pressure, but my left ear, the ear drum isn't even moving. So we do the beep test etc for both ears, and then at least we did a nerve based hearing test too, to rule out any real hearing loss.

The result of all these test come to say that my left ear is suffering from major conductive hearing loss, basically that just means, my ear are full of puss behind the ear drum and that the ear drum is very retracted. This seems to be very common for me. Any time that I have a sever allergy attack my Eustachian tube refuses to drain properly, so because of this, the doctor recommends that I get tubes in my ear again. This time they are for up 5-7 years. Unlike when I was a kid, new tubes every few months, depending on how much my head grew or activities I did, that might have caused them to fall out.

The goal of having tubes in the ear is to try and keep an air flow into the ear to promote health

This is a 3 step process

Procedure for Ear Tubes

The procedure is performed in an outpatient OR setting for children and often in the office for adults. The procedure is usally quick and takes less than 10 minutes to perform.

The goal of ear tubes is to provide adequate ventilation of the middle ear space since blockage of the eustachian tube and subsequent pressure changes caused the problems in the first place. A second benefit is that if another infection is to occur, the fluid can drain out if the tube.

One important consideration to remember is that the middle ear space (area behind the ear drum) is supposed to be sterile, that is not contaminated with bacteria. The ear drum functions as a protective barrier to bacteria-laden water from the shower of swimming pool. With an ear tube in place, a route for water to enter the middle ear is present and this can lead to recurrent infections. Thus, it is important to avoid dunking one's head under water and to be sure to wear some sort of occlusive device to protect the ears when around water.

So as I continue to live in this world with this constant buzzing in my left ear, and lack of ability to hear anyone who speaks at certain tone ranges or addresses me on my left side, we just now wait for surgery.

Wilson birthday party

On behalf of Robert, thank you all for coming to Brian and Lexi's birthday party. We hoped that everyone enjoyed the food and had lots of fun! Feel free to save any of the photos for your family. Click on this link for larger versions of the photos.

This post will probably last until the next Wilson birthday party. There are enough photos in in this post that if Robert were to post this amount of photos, he might have another child.

Things are looking brighter

Im starting to see a little sunshine through my Sinusitis. I have been taking meds for that last week, and been all drugged up, but it seems to be fading a bit, or the meds are actually working. I been living on Flonase (oops forgot to shoot it up my nose this morning), claritin eq (Pharmacy strength) pseudo/something pill. I am pill popper now heh.

Well either than that this week hasn't been to bad. Tuesdays and Thursdays are still shot. I work from 6am - 230 get home around 3pm and leave to take Bryan to Tae Kwon Do at 4:30 get home around 6:15 gets kids ready for bed and leave myself at 7:30 for Tae Kwon Do and get home around 9:30pm. So basically those 2 days are a blur. Bryan is having fun in his Tae Kwon Do, he did his first sparring yesterday (Thursday), against his best friend. Those two couldn't keep the giggles down. Bryan is on his Yellow belt at the moment and will be working towards his orange belt over the remainder of this month and next. Myself, I hook kicked a girl in the head last night while sparring, it was an accident but the kick felt good heh. She toppled over but got back up and was saying I rung her bell heh. Right now we are working on the third form and that will get me ready to test for my green belt in March (I think).

Drew is doing great. Most nights he seems to sleep pretty regular sometimes not. He does have mommy radar and starts crying when he feels his mommy is too far away, like early mornings when mom goes and does newspaper at 3:15 am Drew will wake up at 3:20. So Tuesday mornings are my roughest but either thant that hes doing pretty good. We will have to see how he does next week at a babysitters. He will be there from 8am - 4 pm.... poor fellow, but at least it is only 1 day of the week that that will have to happen.

Tiff is about to start school on the upcoming Monday. If she passes this semester, only one more semester of nursing and she will be able to take the board test to get her RN license. It will be nice to have school out of the way (so says my pocket book) and then I can focus on finishing my degree (<== Slacker).

Lexi is turning out to be a big helper, and she is becoming more girly everyday, I was worried at first that she was gonna be another Boy in a girl body, but she likes me to brush her hair for long periods, she has been picking out dresses to wear. She has just been being girl cute lately.

Well thats this weeks update I ll post more later

What a crappy last Week

As some of you might know, I severely suffer from Sinusitis. This is not a fun thing for me. At first it starts like a common cold, but then it progresses to extreme factors. First I lose appetite, I get lethargic, and all I ever want to do is sleep. This all started for me on wonderful last Monday afternoon, when I broke into a fever. At least Monday night sometime Tuesday Morning I broke this fever and thought that maybe I just had a 24 hour bug. Tuesday day went I didn't realize until Wednesday morning of what I had again. Because my nose during Sinusitis really refuses to breathe right at night I sleep like a fish, with my mouth wide open. Thats where the trouble comes in. So Wednesday I wake up with a wonderful sore throat and hacking up junk like crazy. And now my eyes are itchy and watery too. I now catch on oh no Sinusitis is back and beating me down again. So I go to work all miserable and try to do my best there, I get home and wow I am just beat.. I go to bed at 6:30 pm. Now the real fun all begins the next day I wake up... oh yeah the real fun. Anytime good ol' Ming decides to get a Sinus infection, guess what I get a Killer ear ache in my left ear. (History, I had tubes in my ears till I was 15. They didn't like to drain properly). Well I know the onset of major pain is incoming just don't know when. My ear is plugged all day and I feel like a deaf man, because I can only hear out of my right ear. And I pick up a new saying, "I'm sorry can you repeat what you said." and then I twist my good ear to them heh. Well Friday night a little after midnight, I start to feel immense pain. Like level 4 on the smiley face scale. I mean it is terrible pain, Every time my heart beat I could feel my eardrum wanting to explode. I have had this happen a few times in my life and I don't like it. I finally find my eardrops around 2am and then put the drops in and then around 5am the pain finally goes away. Now I have big cotton ball sticking out of my ear. So I have been in that last stage for Saturday and Sunday and now onto Monday. I wish my hearing would come back, I wish this stinking sinusitis would go away.

But good thing is sinusitis is allergy driven and therefore I am not contageous to the family. They all are living life like nothing is wrong, while poor dad gets periodic moments of extreme pain in his ear. But such is life.... Lets just hope it gets better soon. (Avg time this last for me is 5-7 weeks... yay me).
